The single daily capsule declares 420 mg magnesium as magnesium oxide, 100% DV. The %DV is arithmetically correct and the label is legal. The other number is the Tolerable Upper Intake Level: NIH ODS states "The Tolerable Upper Intake Level for supplemental magnesium is 350 mg for adults", that "high doses of magnesium from dietary supplements or medications can cause diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal cramping", and that "The forms of magnesium that are most commonly reported to cause diarrhea include magnesium carbonate, chloride, gluconate, and oxide". So a digestive-health product delivers 120% of the adult UL of supplemental magnesium in the least bioavailable common form and one of the four forms ODS singles out for causing diarrhoea. The page carries a "Free From" badge grid listing Wheat, and the Amazon bullet says the product "contains no gluten, milk, soy or preservatives". The brand's own footnote on the same page reads: "▲ While this product contains an ingredient sourced from wheat, it meets the FDA's definition of gluten free (less than 20 ppm gluten)." The footnote is the careful, creditable disclosure; the badge grid immediately above it is the one a wheat-avoiding consumer will read, and it gives the wrong answer. A three-year-old count presented in the present tense. The claim is directionally supportable — 5,200 records mention the strain — so this is a currency defect, not a padded number.

The Supplement Facts exists only as an image on the brand's CDN, and DSLD holds no record across seven independent queries — including brand, product name, manufacturer, UPC-12, GTIN-14 and item model number. DSLD submission is voluntary, so absence is a disclosure gap and not a violation. But the page that hosted the panel now says the product is discontinued: once the CDN drops the image, the panel ceases to exist in public. Start with what it does right, because the list is long and unusual for this category. One organism, named to strain level, with a designator that resolves to a public deposit: Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, ATCC 53103. No proprietary blend, no species-only listing, nothing buried in a blend total. CFU guaranteed through expiration, said three times, with the brand explicitly and correctly naming at-manufacture claiming as the inferior practice — “Some competitors claim the number of live probiotics based on when the product was made. One more number, unrelated to the probiotic and larger than any of them. The capsule carries 420 mg of magnesium as the oxide — 120% of the 350 mg adult Tolerable Upper Intake Level for supplemental magnesium, in the form NIH ODS names among those most commonly reported to cause diarrhoea, in a product sold for digestive health. The FAQ attributes the bloating and gurgling new users report to “the changing environment in the digestive system.” There is a more parsimonious explanation on the panel.
And then the shelf. Culturelle’s live catalogue runs to 39 products. Men’s: zero. Women’s: three. At the identical $27.49, the women’s counterpart is five fully-designated strains selected against a named target microbiome. The men’s was one house strain with a multivitamin bolted on. The brand built a real women’s product and a positioning exercise on the men’s side — and it is the positioning exercise that has been withdrawn.
